University of North Texas R&D to Boost Manufacturing Military Machinery

New research and development being conducted at the University of North Texas (UNT), Denton, Texas, could have a major impact on future military operations. The research will analyze the Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) additive manufacturing process. The manufacturing will be done with equipment in UNT’s Center for Agile and Adaptive Additive Manufacturing. The research could allow military vessels to produce their own replacement parts that are more reliable and durable.

PacifiCan Funds to Support the Centre for Applied Research and Innovation

Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada (PacifiCan), Burnaby, British Columbia,  announced over $1.9 million funding for the British Columbia Institute for Technology’s (BCIT) Centre for Applied Research and Innovation. The funds will establish AAMTECH, a 3D printing advanced additive manufacturing prototyping hub. The hub will reduce the cost to acquire and operate equipment that has been a barrier for businesses that are developing and commercializing new concepts.

MPIF Technical Board Meets to Review Las Vegas Papers

The MPIF Tech Board met recently to review and select the Outstanding Technical Paper Awards from PowderMet2023 and AMPM2023 conferences that were held in Las Vegas. The final review is part of a thorough vetting process that includes review by the session chair, assigned reviewers, and Tech Board members.

The powder metallurgy (PM) industry was the brightest light on the famous Las Vegas Strip during PowderMet2023 and AMPM2023 at Caesars Palace. During the Opening General Session APMI International and the Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) honored several distinguished members of the PM community.
