First AM Valve Manifold on US Navy Aircraft Carrier

HII, America’s largest shipbuilder and a global defense provider, has announced that its Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division in Virginia, has successfully installed the first additively manufactured valve manifold assembly on a new construction aircraft carrier. NNS collaborated with DM3D Technology, Auburn Hills, Michigan, to manufacture the manifold body.

MIM Continues to be Key for Golf Wedges

COBRA Golf has launched its new 2025 KING Wedges that feature MIM (metal injection molding) construction, which allows for exceptionally precise manufacturing, offering approximately 50% tighter tolerances than traditional cast wedges. During the MIM process, each KING Wedge is heat treated to nearly 1400 °C (2500 °F), leading to a tighter grain structure for a softer feel and enhanced precision.

America Makes Announces AAMI Project Call Worth $1.1M in Funding

America Makes and the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) announced a new open project call to establish additive manufacturing (AM) equivalency and interoperability between the United States Department of Defense (DoD) and United Kingdom (UK) Ministry of Defense (MoD) supply chains, focusing on laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) of critical parts. The project will also identify barriers to allied interoperability and support the development of international qualification approaches.

Ford and Red Bull F1 Debut AM Components

Ford Motor Company has begun testing for its first Formula 1 race in two decades, utilizing innovative technologies like additive manufacturing. Ford Performance Motorsports Powertrain personnel report that around 1,000 complex metal and plastic parts have been designed to endure extreme conditions required in races that average 200 miles per hour.
