Ames National Laboratory, Ames, Iowa, has established a new refractory metal powder atomization system designed to help researchers develop materials for extreme environments, including next-generation gas turbines and fusion energy systems.

The Elmet Group Company, Portland, Maine, announced a $450 million committed investment from the U.S. Department of War to expand U.S. tungsten manufacturing and strengthen allied supply chains for critical materials. The funding will support domestic production, long-term raw material access, and expanded mining and processing capacity, including more than $165 million for Elmet operations in Maine, Michigan, and Ohio that manufacture and process tungsten, molybdenum, and other advanced materials.

Scientists at the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials, an autonomous institute under India’s Department of Science and Technology, have developed a new bi-layered dental implant that combines the strength of titanium with the tooth-like appearance of zirconia in a single integrated structure.

The MPIF and APMI membership thank Turner Abbott for his 34 years of service to the PM industry and wish him well in retirement. Wiley Abner will assume the APMI Administrator responsibilities.

The stars aligned perfectly at the recent APMI West Penn Seafood Picnic with clear skies and nice temperatures. The major players in the local PM industry were out in force with the official count totaling 499, the largest crowd in recent memory. Company executives, sales managers, plant personnel, and suppliers mingled while enjoying an array of seafood and beverages.
